System Requirements

RIG Riot is an Unreal Engine 5 third-person mech raid built by Sage Boatman. Steam lists a September 14, 2026 launch window. A demo can be downloaded on Steam and itch.io. Before you argue about Scout versus Bulwark, confirm the machine. This page copies the official Steam minimum and then talks through what that line actually means. Steam has not published a recommended spec. This wiki will not invent one. Official Steam platform is Windows. Linux through Proton has been mentioned by press as possible; it is unofficial.

Pair this page with controls and Steam Deck. First-hour play is getting started. Combat ranks are on the tier list hub.

Official Steam minimum (copy this, do not guess)

Steam’s published minimum:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 960
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 10 GB available space

That is the entire table. No AMD GPU line, no “recommended,” no 16 GB RAM target, no 60 FPS promise on desktop. If a chart on the internet adds those rows, it is not Steam’s chart.

The itch.io playtest zip is about 2.8 GB. Steam still lists 10 GB. Treat them as different packages: the itch zip is a playtest/demo-sized download; the Steam page is the store’s install budget for the Windows build it intends to ship. Do not assume the full install is 2.8 GB because itch is smaller, and do not assume itch needs 10 GB because Steam says 10.

Languages: English interface, full audio, and subtitles. Single-player. Full controller support. Steam Achievements. Steam Cloud. Those are store flags, not extra spec rows, but they tell you the game is a Windows Steam client with cloud saves.

What a GTX 960 / 8 GB / DX12 line is really saying

A GTX 960 minimum in UE5 usually means: you can boot, you can raid, and you should expect to turn effects down before you turn the RIG into a particle storm. Sage has shipped multiple optimization passes in public notes. That is not the same as a recommended card. If you are on 8 GB RAM, close the overlay zoo. If you are below DX12, you are below the published line.

The i7-4790K @ 4.00 GHz is a Haswell-era quad. Steam listed that exact string, so that is the CPU floor. Newer four-core chips at similar clocks are the honest comparison; a dual-core laptop that “feels fast in a browser” is not. This wiki will not publish a fake equivalent table.

DirectX 12 is a hard requirement on the Steam page. If a machine only offers an older DirectX feature level, it is not in spec even if the GPU name sounds close to 960. Storage is the quiet gotcha. 10 GB is the Steam number. Leave headroom for shader caches and cloud. The demo is the right download if you are testing a borderline box — see the demo page.

Windows official, Linux unofficial, Deck is a different page

Steam’s platform flag for RIG Riot is Windows. Press coverage (including Linux-focused outlets) has talked about Proton as a way to boot the demo. That is unofficial. If it runs, it is a bonus. If it does not, you are not missing a listed spec row. Do not file “Linux support” as a requirement this wiki invented.

Steam Deck is Playable, not Verified. That rating lives on Steam Deck, not here. Sage has said they intend Deck-friendly 60 FPS after settings tweaks; an earlier public note also talked about locking 40 FPS. Desktop GTX 960 and Deck are not the same target. If you own both, test both with the demo.

Controller users still need the Windows spec. Full controller support does not lower RAM. The mouse jumping to the top-left when a pad is detected is an input quirk — details on controls. Photosensitivity warning, HUD opacity, camera comfort, custom volume, adjustable difficulty, and playable without timed input are accessibility flags that also do not change the GTX 960 line.

RIG Riot is a fast raid: boosters, dashes, missiles, and death-proc lightning. Min spec does not mean “max everything.” If EN, BST, and ammo LS/RS/LH/RH are already a lot to read, do not add a 20 FPS overlay. How to play and raids and objectives assume you can see the objective beacon. If you cannot, drop effects before you drop the sniper lane on the weapon tier list. Garage screens are lighter than a full raid. If the garage is already struggling, the transport boss will not be kinder. Timing: updates, launch notes. Official store: links.

Next steps after you read the Steam table

Write the six Steam bullets on paper and tick them against Device Manager, not against a friend’s anecdote. If any bullet fails, stop and run the demo only as a curiosity. If all six pass, drill inputs on controls so BST ON and wall kicks are not the thing that tanks the frame time, then — if the machine is a Deck — continue on Steam Deck. Spec is a gate. It is not a build. After the gate, go back to getting started and pick a lane.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common RIG Riot questions.

What is the official minimum spec?

Windows 10, Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00 GHz, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 960, DirectX 12, 10 GB storage. Copied from Steam, not invented here.

Is there a recommended spec?

No. Steam has not published one. This wiki will not fabricate GPU or RAM rows.

Why does itch say ~2.8 GB if Steam says 10 GB?

The itch playtest zip is about 2.8 GB. Steam lists 10 GB for the store install budget. Treat them as different packages. See the demo page.

Does it run on Linux?

Official Steam platform is Windows. Press has mentioned Proton. That is unofficial. Do not treat Linux as a listed requirement.

Does the GTX 960 line apply to Steam Deck?

No. Deck has its own Playable rating. Use the Steam Deck page and test the demo on the handheld.

What should I read after spec?

Controls for inputs, then getting started for the first raid.
