RIG Riot Demo Guide
Steam demo app 3992510 and the itch.io playtest zip, plus what the slice actually teaches.
The demo can be downloaded on Steam and itch.io. That is the install fact this wiki will keep repeating. Steam hosts demo app 3992510 next to the full listing (app 3180340). itch.io hosts rig-riot-windows-playtest.zip — around file version 81, about 2.8 GB. Steam lists a September 14, 2026 launch window; the demo is the playable slice while the coming_soon flag is still true.
How to get it
On Steam, open the Steam store and use the demo download on that page. On itch, open the itch.io demo and grab the Windows zip. itch is a manual install; Steam is the library install. Either client is English. Check system requirements first: Windows 10, DirectX 12, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 960-class GPU, and enough disk for a multi-gigabyte unpack. Deck notes live on Steam Deck.
Playtest disclaimer
itch uses a name-your-price prompt. Sage’s own disclaimer says that prompt is support for development, not a pre-purchase, and you should not feel the need to pay unless you want to fund the game. Paying on itch does not buy the Steam full game. Optional support also exists on Ko-fi and Patreon. This wiki does not invent prices or reward tiers.
If you prefer not to handle a 2.8 GB zip, use Steam. If you want itch.devlog next to the file you boot, use itch. After either install, join Discord so later patches are not a surprise.
What the demo teaches
Three rooms matter: Armory, raids, and garage.
The Armory is the loadout bench before a raid. Starter weapons, slot choices, and the habit of saving a RIG live here. The March 19, 2026 onboarding update added raid tutorial pop-ups and HUD explainers so the first run is not a silent failure. Read Getting Started before you skip those pop-ups, and bind turbo boost on controls.
Raids are the loop. You fight escalating enemies, finish objectives, spend encryption tokens on weapons and Volatile Mods, then deal with a transport once major objectives are done. March 19 also split Mission versus Assault: Mission drops respawning patrols and scales with completed objectives instead of elapsed time; Assault keeps the timed pressure. July 14, 2026 added new objectives, a Bandit enemy, Arena, and major-objective pools based on how many majors you have already finished. Details sit on raids and objectives.
The garage is the metaprogression bench. Outer and inner parts persist. July 14 saved weapons into loadouts, saved colors and palettes, and added interface customization plus HUD opacity. Quad legs arrived around February 20, 2026 (with a Steam Next Fest trailer that month). Biped legs became part drops on July 14. Garage customization and how to get parts cover what stays after a wipe.
What is still in flux versus the full game
Locked stages stay hidden in the demo. The full listing can add stages, enemies, and systems the zip does not show. Weapon customization, loadout saves, and HUD sliders landed in a demo update, but numbers keep moving: Fire Demon gatling 210 to 60, Assassin load limit up, Watcher pack speed doubled, charged status depleting 10% energy. September 8, 2026 brought the demo onto the same version as the release build, with a settings reset for Steam Cloud. September 11 and 12 were further bug-fix drops. Full lists live on itch.devlog; this wiki’s recap is Patch Notes.
Steam still listed coming_soon on this wiki’s build day. English is the language on the Steam listing. The game is single-player. Do not treat the demo as a second product with a separate date. Treat it as the current public build of a game whose store window is printed as September 14, 2026.
Install, then open the Armory
Download from Steam or itch, confirm the file is near version 81 if you used the zip, then finish the raid tutorial pop-ups before you invent a build. Open the Armory, save a loadout, and only then start a Mission or Assault. After one extract, bank parts in the garage and read weapons and mods. If the client feels old, skip straight to Patch Notes instead of grinding a pre-July garage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common RIG Riot questions.
Where can I download the RIG Riot demo?
The demo can be downloaded on Steam and itch.io. Steam uses demo app 3992510. itch hosts `rig-riot-windows-playtest.zip`.
Is the itch name-your-price a pre-purchase?
No. The developer disclaimer says it is support for development, not a pre-purchase, and you should not feel required to pay.
How big is the itch zip?
Around 2.8 GB, file version around 81. Confirm system requirements before you unpack it.
What does the demo teach?
Armory loadouts, raids (Mission versus Assault, objectives, transport), and garage parts. Walkthroughs start at Getting Started.
Are locked stages in the demo?
No. The July 14 update hides locked stages. Treat missing stages as demo limits, not as missing files.
Does the demo match the full game?
Not fully, and the gap is still in flux. September 8 moved the demo onto the release-build version for bug fixes and performance, but content such as hidden stages can still differ. See Patch Notes.
