Making RIG Riot
Public production notes from YouTube devlogs and Steam news, not a behind-the-scenes leak.
RIG Riot is a solo Unreal Engine 5 project by Sage Boatman. This page collects public production notes so you can see why the demo feels the way it does. It is not a patch list and it is not a review. Steam lists a September 14, 2026 launch window. The demo can be downloaded on Steam and itch.io. English is the language on the Steam listing. The game is single-player.
Sage posts devlogs on YouTube @RIGRiot and shorter Steam news. A September 1, 2026 Steam post titled New Devlog | Making RIG Riot pointed at a video about creation decisions and said he could not wait for players to have the game on September 14. This wiki embeds the public nine-month production devlog as the mid-article watch, because that upload is a real official ID. It does not invent a second video ID for the September 1 headline if the store post did not print one.
Why a roguelike mech shooter
Public talks cite Armored Core, Risk of Rain, and Borderlands as the mix: third-person frame combat, run-based upgrades, and loot that wants synergy. Sage has said he started after 100%ing Armored Core 6 and still wanting more tinkering. That is flavor, not a license claim. The loop that shipped in the demo is Armory → raid stages in a megastructure → objectives → transport boss → garage parts.
Early customization work treated every part as shells from sets (shoulder, upper arm, forearm on an arm, for example). Later playtests forced changes: Volatile Mods went from infinite stacks to six slots with rarity, weapon augments attached per gun, and two statuses on one weapon combining into a stronger status. Those systems are documented on weapons and mods.
Playtests, itch, and the demo
Sage has described accidentally starting playtests in Discord, then using itch.io because Steam’s review queue was slower. A public devlog titled 2,500 people tried the game covered registered testers versus actual players and wishlist movement. The current public client is the Steam demo (app 3992510) plus the itch Windows zip around version 81 (~2.8 GB). The itch prompt is name-your-price support, not a pre-purchase. Install steps sit on the demo guide.
Content landed in public drops, not in secret patches this wiki invents. Quad Legs around February 20, 2026. Onboarding, Mission versus Assault, and raid tutorial pop-ups on March 19, 2026. Bipeds, Arena, Bandits, loadouts, and HUD opacity on July 14, 2026. Build parity and settings reset on September 8, 2026, then two more bug-fix posts on September 11 and 12. Chronology is on public patch notes.
Soundtrack and remaining stages
A May 2026 public update said Sage had implemented the fourth of five planned stages, added biped legs, improved audio and visuals, and composed more soundtrack. Steam lists extra content titled RIG Riot Soundtrack. The public sample track Drive Corrupt is on the official YouTube channel and on this wiki’s soundtrack page. This page will not invent the rest of the album.
Wishlist counts Sage cited in 2026 (demo launch tripling wishlists, later public figures around 30k+) are his numbers, not a live Steam scrape. Treat them as production context. Closed-beta calls go through Discord when Sage is ready; this wiki does not run a signup.
What to read after the devlog
If the video makes the garage click, open garage customization and quad and biped legs. If it makes Arena look like the fun room, open arena mode. First-hour raids still start at getting started. Store, Discord, Ko-fi, and Patreon remain on official channels. Timing for the full client is the launch window. This making-of page is history and intent, not a substitute for a patched client.
