RIG Riot Advanced Tips and Tech
Movement tech, combat tricks, and garage secrets from the RIG Riot pilot community.
This page collects advanced techniques and community-discovered tricks that go beyond the tutorial and basic guides. These are not official mechanics — they are pilot observations that the community has verified through repeated testing. Some may be changed by future patches; treat them as launch-window tech.
If you have not finished the tutorial pop-ups, start with getting started and controls first. This page assumes you can already read the HUD, toggle boosters, and execute basic wall jumps without thinking.
Movement tech
Movement is where skilled pilots separate themselves from the pack. These tricks are the language of high-level RIG Riot play.
Toggle-dash — After dashing, immediately toggle off your boosters. You will fall to the ground quickly and immediately begin recharging energy. This is faster than floating and waiting for natural descent, and it resets your EN regen for the next engagement. Practice this until it is automatic: dash, BST OFF, then BST ON again when you need to move.
Wall-kick chaining — You can chain wall kicks in rapid succession by jumping at walls with movement input. With practice you can traverse long vertical shafts or long horizontal corridors faster than any straight flight path. The direction of the kick matters — input the opposite direction of the wall to maximize height and distance.
Downward dash boost — A public patch tripled downward dash boost power. Use a downward dash during flight to rejoin a fight faster than waiting for gravity alone. This is especially useful in biped aerial builds where you need to quickly reposition from high ground.
Hover reload — Watcher hover drains EN continuously, but you can use the brief moment after you land to reload LS/RS/LH/RH ammo pools before hover reactivates. If you are running a Watcher-based sniper build, use landing windows to top off ammo before the next sightline.
BST ON positioning — Boosters ON is not just for horizontal speed — it affects your aerial hitbox and enemy targeting. Flying with BST ON makes you a harder target for ground-based enemies because your movement profile is less predictable. Use this against stationary turret enemies and long-range shooters.
Combat tricks
Shot leading at range — RIG Riot enemies lead their shots against moving targets. A straight flight line is not evasion; it is a predictable path. Vary your boost timing and direction to break enemy targeting algorithms. The best evasion is irregular movement, not maximum speed.
Status weapon anti-boost — A July 2026 demo update made charged status procs also deplete 10% of the target’s energy. Status weapons are anti-boost tools — if an enemy is hovering or boosting, a status proc forces them to choose between movement and positioning.
Two-status weapon protection — When two statuses combine on a single weapon into a unique stronger status, protect that weapon with weapon-only augments. The unique status is a build identity; losing it to a bad upgrade choice is a run setback.
Energy Blade practical use — Sage noted the held hit for Energy Blade was balanced as if people used both the held hit and the swing, then admitted almost nobody uses the held hit. The swing is the practical tank tool. If you are running a blade build, practice the swing timing and ignore the hold in combat.
Fire Demon gatling context — Fire Demon’s gatling base damage per projectile was cut from 210 to 60 in a July 2026 patch. Do not plan around old clip math. The gatling is still viable in close quarters, but it is no longer an alpha-strike weapon at range.
Garage and parts secrets
Void Slot practical use — Void Slot (also called Blocked Slot in later demo patches) prevents a slot from being considered when upgrade options generate. Use it on a mount you never intend to use so the upgrade pool stops offering junk for that empty hand.
Scrapper repair drops — The Scrapper backpack causes repair pickups to drop in the world. A public patch added a world icon so you can see them during a raid. Use Scrapper for missile/AR builds where you want sustain without leaving the fight.
Mixed parts intentional choice — The garage allows mixed components from full sets. Mixed is B-rank when it is unintentional (every slot is the highest number you just looted). Mixed is higher rank when it is intentional — for example, Scout speed on Assassin load limit.
Boosters and Quad legs — Quad legs want grounded boost more than air time. Sage reduced Quad jump multiplier while raising grounded boost on purpose. If you are running Quad legs, do not expect biped-style hover behavior.
Generator sizing — A generator that panics when BST is off is too small for your build. Watcher hover and flight boost die without adequate generator support. If your EN bar is always empty, try a bigger generator before you blame the weapon tier list.
Community tech sharing
The Steam Community has an active tech sharing thread where pilots post discoveries. Check the RIG Riot Steam Community for the latest discoveries. New tech is still being found as more pilots log hours in the full game.
Next steps
Advanced tech is only useful when the fundamentals are automatic. If look, boost, wall jump, and flight boost are not muscle memory yet, go back to how to play and controls. Once the basics are free, come back here and practice one technique at a time until it is also automatic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common RIG Riot questions.
What is toggle-dash?
After dashing, immediately toggle off boosters. You fall faster and EN recharges immediately, ready for the next boost. It is faster than floating and waiting to descend naturally.
Are these techniques patch-proof?
No. These are community-observed techniques at launch. Sage Boatman may adjust movement parameters in future patches. Check the Steam Community for the latest tech discoveries.
How do I use Watcher hover effectively?
Watcher hover drains EN continuously. Use landing windows to reload ammo and recharge EN before hovering again. A generator that cannot sustain BST ON is too small for hover builds.
What is the best way to evade enemy shots?
Irregular movement, not maximum speed. RIG Riot enemies lead their shots against moving targets. Vary your boost timing and direction to break enemy targeting.
Why does my EN always run out?
BST ON taxes EN recharge. A generator that panics when BST is off is too small for your build. Try a bigger generator before blaming weapons or mods.
Can I chain wall kicks continuously?
Yes, with practice. Input the opposite direction of each wall to maximize height and distance. This is faster than straight flight for vertical and horizontal traversal.
